Founder and CEO, Derwood Anderson, brings leadership and over 40 years of professional program and construction management experience to AG|CM.

After graduating with a degree in Building Construction from Texas A&M University, Derwood spent 17 years working for several large, prominent general contractors, where he acquired an in-depth knowledge and perspective of the construction process. Similarly, he observed the interactions between architects/engineers and the owners of projects, and concluded that both groups ultimately had vested interests they protected during the design and construction process that may not match those of their clients.

This observation led him to the realization that owners truly needed an advocate, a group with strong leadership and decision-making skills that would enter into a relationship with the owners and work solely for their interests. From there, AG|CM was created.

Derwood provides executive leadership and project briefings and ensures that our company motto of Employees First, Family Focused is established throughout all of our offices.

Six-Word-Bio

"Needed a job, started a company."

What was your first job ever?

Baling hay during the summer as a 14-15-year-old. Hottest and sweatiest I’ve ever been. You are on a trailer behind the baler and as the bales come out you stack them on this moving trailer. After the trailer is full, it is taken to a barn (a very hot barn) and stacked to the roof. I earned $5/day and we got bologna sandwiches for lunch!

What are your guiding words in life (or in work)?

Particularly in life, “It’s Better to Be Happy Than Right”. It took me too long to and too many arguments to appreciate the meaning of that saying.

What inspires you?

Seeing a green grass site become something beneficial and we are directly responsible for making it happen.
